When you are doing serious viewings, I would suggest that you wear easy slip-on / slip-off shoes.  Firstly, this means that you don’t have to keep putting on the blue carpet protecting slip-ons.  Importantly for you though it means that you can walk on the carpets with your shoes off to feel if the floor is uneven or if there are concrete bumps underneath the carpet.  Obviously, you will need to be wearing socks, despite the fashion to not wear socks these days.  You will not be allowed to walk barefoot through the home, as this is unhygienic.
